Marine Gps Garmin

Have to replace battery in marine GPS quite often. Why is this?

It’s a GARMIN GPSMAP 230, and since the end of October ‘08, we’ve have to replace the “memory battery” several times. Could there be a drain on the system when it’s turned off?

Most GPS units, especially good Garmin’s will go through batteries like theres no tomorrow

The best option is to connect the GPS to the battery of your boat therefore only having the batteries as a back-up, if you can’t do this yourself, it can be done at most boat repair shops
